Reality Tour

Reality Tour is an evidence-based grassroots prevention experience for families. The program centers on a 'Walk in the Life and Death of a Teen on Drugs' featuring a family meal, dramatized scenes and a Q&A session.

Too Good For Drugs
Picture
Too Good For Drugs will be taught in the Sanders Unified School District during the 2022-2023 school year. The evidence-based program teaches five essential character development skills to build self-efficacy, promote healthy development, and academic success, including 1) Setting Reachable Goals; 2) Making Responsible Decisions; 3) Bonding with Pro-Social Others; 4) Identifying and Managing Emotions; and 5) Communicating Effectively.

Keep a Clear Mind
Picture
Keep A Clear Mind is a parent-child, take-home drug education program currently taught in the Sanders Unified School District. Students take the activity books home, one per week, and do the program with their parents. They receive a student incentive (bumper sticker, book mark, etc) for showing their teacher that their parents have signed indicating they have worked with them to complete the activity book.

Strategic Prevention Framework
In 2019, CARE AZ received the Strategic Prevention Framework- Partnerships for Success grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The purpose of this grant program is to help reduce the onset and progression of substance misuse and its related problems by supporting the development and delivery of community substance misuse prevention and mental health promotion services. The SPF-PFS program is grounded in the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF). The SPF includes these five steps:

1. Assessment: Identify local prevention needs based on data (e.g., What is the problem?)

2. Capacity: Build local resources and readiness to address prevention needs (e.g., What do you have to work with?)

3. Planning: Find out what works to address prevention needs and how to do it well (e.g., What should you do and how should you do it?)

4. Implementation: Deliver evidence-based programs and practices as intended (e.g., How can you put your plan into action?)

5. Evaluation: Examine the process and outcomes of programs and practices (e.g., Is your plan succeeding?)

CARE AZ uses these funds to evaluate the current substance use issues facing Southern Apache County, and to deliver evidence-based prevention programs to youth and adults. Find out more about the Strategic Prevention Framework program here.
Drug Free Communities
The DFC program is aimed at mobilizing community leaders to identify and respond to the drug problems unique to their community and change local community environmental conditions tied to substance use. More than 700 community coalitions across the country receive funding up to $125,000 per year to strengthen collaboration among local partners and create an infrastructure that reduces youth substance use.
The DFC program goals are to:
  • Establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, public and private non-profit agencies, and Federal, state, local and tribal governments to support the efforts of community coalitions working to prevent and reduce substance use among youth.
  • Reduce substance use among youth and, over time, reduce substance use among adults by addressing the factors in a community that increase risk for substance use and promoting factors that minimize risk for substance use.
