How it Began
CAREaz was formed in July 2018 by St. Johns, Arizona resident Donna Hauser to bring more comprehensive substance abuse resources to Apache County. After working in substance abuse prevention for nearly two decades, Donna determined there was a great need for additional treatment and recovery options that would allow all residents of Apache County to seek help.
Our Mission Statement
Our mission is to inspire and support individuals and families in the communities we serve to live healthy, happy, fulfilling lives free from the devastating effects of substance use.
Building the Team
Through discussions with key stakeholders, health care and mental health providers, it was decided that CAREaz should focus its efforts on bringing recovery and re-entry resources to Apache County. This group of individuals and agencies formed the original consortium that would work together to address the county's needs. Eventually, Donna would add more individuals to the team of staff members, broadening the program's reach.
Building Capacity
In 2019, CAREaz was awarded Federal funding through The US Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, providing the resources and programming to commence an aggressive campaign to combat Substance Use Disorder. In addition to funding from the Health Resources and Services Administration, CAREaz is also funded by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and MATFORCE. As a result, current offerings at CAREaz include substance abuse prevention and recovery, a comprehensive resource center, the PEERS program, the Live-Free Re-Entry program, and multiple educational opportunities.
